Connect Instagram & Facebook

Customers reach you through Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger. Connect both so Clara can respond directly from your AgentClara inbox.

Requirements

You need:
  • An Instagram business account (or creator account with messaging enabled)
  • A Facebook page linked to your business
  • Admin access to the account/page
  • Message approval enabled in account settings
If you only have a personal Instagram account, you’ll need to switch to a business account first. It’s free and takes 2 minutes in the Instagram app.

How to Connect

Go to Integrations

Find Instagram & Facebook

Look for “Instagram” or “Facebook” and click Connect

Log Into Your Meta Account

You’ll be redirected to Facebook/Meta. Log in with your account.(This handles both Instagram and Facebook since Meta owns both.)

Grant Permissions

Meta will ask if AgentClara can:
  • ✅ Read your messages
  • ✅ Send messages
  • ✅ View your contacts
  • ✅ Manage your page
Click Approve.

Select Your Account

  • For Instagram: Choose your business account
  • For Facebook: Choose your page
You can connect both—they’ll show as separate channels in your inbox.

Back to AgentClara

You’ll be redirected back to AgentClara. It will say “Connected”.Messages will start appearing within 5 minutes.

Test It

Send yourself a DM:
  1. From your personal account, DM your business page/account
  2. See it appear in AgentClara (labeled “Instagram” or “Facebook”)
  3. Reply from AgentClara
  4. See your reply on Instagram/Facebook

Instagram DMs in Your Inbox

Once connected, DMs appear in https://agentclara.app/chats:
  • Filter by Channel: Instagram to see only Instagram messages
  • Filter by Channel: Facebook to see only Facebook messages
  • Click any conversation to see the thread
  • Type a reply and send (it appears in their DMs instantly)

How Clara Handles Instagram/Facebook

Clara can respond to DMs with:
  • Product info - “That shirt comes in blue and green”
  • Appointment booking - “We have availability Friday at 2pm”
  • Questions - “What size do you need?”
  • Order status - “Your order ships tomorrow”
  • Escalation - “Let me connect you with our sales team”
Example conversation: Customer DM: “Do you have this in a larger size?” Clara: “Great question! We have XL, XXL, and XXXL available. Which fits best?” Customer: “XL, how much to ship?” Clara: “Shipping is free on orders over $50. That size is in stock. Want me to send you the link?” Customer: “Yes please” Clara: [Sends product link] All in DMs. No need to leave Instagram.

Instagram Features

Story Replies

When someone replies to your Instagram Story, Clara can respond:
  • “Thanks for commenting!”
  • “DM us to learn more”
  • “Link in bio for details”

DM Stickers & Quick Replies

Instagram allows:
  • Stickers - Add personality to responses
  • GIFs - Make responses more engaging
  • Quick replies - Save common responses and use them with one click
Set these up in Settings > Quick Replies.

Automations

You can set up automations:
  • Auto-reply for welcome messages - “Thanks for DM! We respond within 2 hours”
  • Appointment confirmations - “You’re booked for Saturday at 3pm”
  • Order updates - “Your order shipped today!”

Facebook Messenger Features

Chat with Customers

Facebook Messenger is similar to Instagram but can handle:
  • Longer conversations - Messenger works better for detailed discussions
  • Payments - Some Facebook pages accept payments through Messenger
  • Attachments - Customers can send receipts, screenshots, etc.

Broadcast Notifications

You can send notifications to customers (with opt-in):
  • Business hours changes
  • New products
  • Limited-time offers
  • Event announcements
Only send to customers who subscribed.

Responding to Messages

All responses go through Clara unless you take over:
  1. Clara automatically replies to DMs
  2. If Clara can’t help, the message is marked for human review
  3. A team member takes over and replies manually
  4. Conversation continues in the same thread
Customers never see “this is an AI” unless you tell them.

Managing Multiple Accounts

You can connect:
  • Multiple Instagram accounts (if you have multiple brands)
  • Multiple Facebook pages (if you manage pages for different clients)
Each shows as a separate channel in your inbox. Switch between them using the Channel Filter.

Conversation Management

In Instagram/Facebook conversations, you can:
  • Tag people or issues
  • Assign to team members
  • Snooze to be reminded later
  • Archive when resolved
  • Mark as spam if needed
All from AgentClara—don’t need to open Instagram app.

Troubleshooting

  1. Check your connection (Integrations > Instagram/Facebook should say “Connected”)
  2. Send yourself a test DM
  3. Refresh the page
  4. Wait 5 minutes (new messages take time to sync)
If still not working, disconnect and reconnect.
  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Refresh Instagram (sometimes there’s a delay)
  3. The message might be pending (check timestamp)
Look for error message in AgentClara (usually says why the message failed).
Go to Integrations > Instagram and see which account is shown.To switch accounts:
  1. Disconnect
  2. Reconnect and choose a different account
You can connect multiple accounts if you add them one by one.
Yes! If they give you admin access to their Instagram page:
  1. You log into their Meta account
  2. Grant permission to AgentClara
  3. Their messages appear in your inbox
You can manage multiple clients’ Instagram accounts in one dashboard.
No! Everything happens in AgentClara. Your team doesn’t need Instagram app access.(Of course, you can still use the Instagram app if you want—messages sync both ways.)

Best Practices

Keep responses friendly but professional. Instagram tone is casual but still business-like.
Respond within 1-2 hours. Instagram customers expect faster replies than email.
Use Clara for common questions. Only have humans take over for complex issues.
Add personality. Instagram audience is younger/more casual—let Clara’s personality shine.
Use images when helpful. Instagram is visual. Send product photos or screen captures when relevant.
Don’t ignore messages. Unread DMs get lost. Check your inbox daily.

Compliance

Instagram and Facebook have rules about what you can message customers. We follow all Meta policies. Don’t:
  • Spam or mass-broadcast without opt-in
  • Send misleading information
  • Pretend to be someone you’re not (Clara should be clearly an assistant)
  • Use bots to deceive (be transparent that Clara is AI)
